Up until the launch of the PanelWarmer, solar panels remained covered in snow far longer than even the ground around them. In order to remove the snow, panel owners risked voiding their warranty or even breaking the panel itself. Snow removal methods included snow rakes, hosing the panels down, and even using Nerf balls to knock snow off the panels! Solar farms found themselves paying hundreds of thousands to have their snow removed by people using snow rakes, which proved both inefficient and expensive.
NextStep Electric Inc. makes it easy to retrofit any size panel with their new PanelWarmer. NextStep Electric in partnership with STEP Heat has launched a simple, innovative solution to keep solar panels active after every snow storm.
Our (Solar) PanelWarmer is UL certified, can be operated manually or utilizing a thermal trigger. Recent tests have shown 5 pounds of ice per foot melting in just under 3 hours and temperature is kept to 80 degrees or below.
While the panel warmer is on it uses approximately 150W/hr per panel at full capacity of 80 degrees, less if you run the panel at a lower temp. Keep in mind, this is during a period of 3 hrs max, which is the most time needed to remove standing snow. No battery is needed.
