Speakers slated for SOLAR 2018, the 47th National Conference of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) in Boulder August 5-8 represent a breadth of technical and policy expertise and societal perspectives, a diversity that is seldom seen, but greatly needed for progress along key “Pathways to Renewable Energy Transformation.” Osiris Stevens from NextStep Electric, Inc., joins this group, presenting on Solar Energy DERM Systems and joining other speakers from places like NREL, NOAA, Rocky Mountain Institute, Sandia National Labs, Vote Solar, and other centers of solar research and local, regional or global action. Registration is now underway at http://www.ases.org/conference, and ASES expects near-record attendance.
Keynote speakers will include Hunter Lovins, co-founder of Rocky Mountain Institute and author of the new book, Finer Future: Creating an Economy in Service to Life and Rob Wallace, CEO of the Baltimore-based non-profit Power 52, which Wallace co-founded with Ravens football great, Ray Lewis.
The Conference will be held at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Boulder itself becomes part of the program, too, according to ASES Executive Director Carly Rixham, because the city is nationally known for strong climate-protection policies and leadership in renewables, extending across every facet of community life. “It is a great venue for mapping your Pathways to the Renewable Energy Transformation,” Rixham said.
The three major Pathways to Renewable Energy Transformation under discussion will take a close look at what it takes to succeed at:
- Broadening access to solar, to give everyone a choice and a voice
- Orchestrating new energy systems, including renewable-based electrification in every sector
- Promoting solar for climate resilience, preparedness and recovery
In addition, to enhance the Broadening Access to Solar track, ASES will host a one-day workshop on Tuesday, August 7, inviting participants in the U.S. Department of Energy, Solar in Your Community Challenge to share peer-to-peer experiences with local solar programs aimed to serve the low- to moderate income market, while enriching community life.
A session on Wednesday morning, August 8, will show how all the pathways lead us back home, where state and local solar outreach and advocacy can make a real difference. That session will feature success stories from around the nation, as well as a presentation by Jessica Scott, regional director for Vote Solar.
The conference website, www.ases.org/conference, includes detailed registration information, an At a Glance schedule and travel notes, plus a list of popular special awards events and tours at the conference.
